The EOD was presented with the Unit Letter of Commendation for 2001 by CAF.
FORMATION: The Explosive Ordnance Detachment is a Confederate Air Force technical detachment. It is charged with providing CAF/EOD members specialized training and how to safely conduct a demonstration at air shows where the CAF's aircraft and/or personnel are performing.
MISSION: The Explosive Ordnance Detachment is charged with, in close coordination with CAF aircraft, to safely conduct demonstrations, using high explosives for the air show audience. Our goal is to safely get a maximum audio and visual effect from the items we have at our disposal. Our plan is to put on a show that is exciting enough that hopefully some of the children and/or adults in the audience will have a mental picture of air to ground warfare. Our members believe that our effort will help viewers reflect on the reality of war and remember the sacrifice made by those who served, that we might better appreciate our unalienable right of freedom.
DUTY: The Explosive Ordnance Detachment members meet early in the morning on show day and work in a coordinated, disciplined way to accomplish their task. Completing that task prior to the air show and after detailed coordination with the pilots who will fly the show, the action begins. We shoot from hundreds to thousands of pounds of high explosives in a show that may last from 7 minutes up to 4 hours.
MEMBERSHIP: The Explosive Ordnance Detachment is made up of people from all over the United States. Men and women who are Confederate Air Force's Explosive Ordnance Detachment dues paying members come from all walks of life. Professions range from service to highly technical fields, pilots, business owners, management, manufacturing, government, etc. EOD operates under and at the pleasure of the Confederate Air Force's general staff. Our internal operation is conducted as directed by the CAF's Unit Manual as wavered for the Explosive Ordnance Detachment. EOD Staff Officers are members of the CAF/EOD and are elected by the membership to serve two year staggered terms. Within the unit we have the following ranks.
- Member - one who is beginning and is being trained
- Shooter - who is capable of setting and shooting a spread of high explosives and/or other visual and audio effect
- Shooter in Charge - who manages the field, supervises the spreads, works with the show's promoters and coordinates locations, timing and procedures that will be followed by the pilots flying the show
